Abstract:
The breeding of the Golden Eagle (Aquila
chrysaetos) was monitored in the wider area of
Štiavnické vrchy Mts. (1080 km²) during 28
years in 1997–2024. Breeding of individual
pairs (altogether six breeding territories) is
described chronologically by year, and some
interesting findings from breeding biology are
mentioned here. The first breeding territory
was found in the north of the study area in
1997 and the last one in the south in 2022.
The closest pairs in one year nested 10 km
apart in Štiavnické vrchy Mts. (2012) and 14
km in Kremnické vrchy Mts. (2022). In the
past, the golden eagle was rare or even
unknown in this area and our findings provide
the first documented evidence of its breeding
here.
